Q: What
do we bring?
A:
Bring your food and beverages. Also bring sunblock lotion,
sun glasses, cameras and film.
Q: What
should we not bring?.
A:You
won't need any fishing tackle or licenses. We request no black soled shoes.
No coolers or ice are needed (the boat will provide a large cooler with
ice).
Q:
How often do you
catch a fish?
A:
While most Kona
boats are consistent producers, there are never any guarantees. The odds
are contingent upon the species you target and the amount of time spent
on the water.
Q:How
long is a 1/2 day, 3/4 day and full day fishing trip?
A:1/2
day of fishing is 4 hours, 3/4 day is 6 hours and full day is 8 hours.
Q:
What can we catch?
A:
Blue Marlin, Striped
Marlin, Shortnose Spearfish, Mahi Mahi, Ono, Yellowfin Tuna, Amberjack, Shark or Aku (Skipjack Tuna)and sometimes many
surprises.
Q:May
I bring non-fishing friends along?
A:
Yes, but the boat
is licensed for up to 6 customers total (fishing or not).
Q:What
happens to the fish we catch?
A:
The Hawaiian tradition is that the fish go to the captain and crew to help
augment their income. No fish is put to waste. All are sold for food.
If your staying in a condo or house and have access to a kitchen, the smaller fish (under 50 pound fish) can be filleted for you if you wish. Just let the Captain know about your desire to have some fillets.
Q:
Can I release my
fish?
A:Yes,
discuss this with your captain before leaving the dock. We encourage tag
and release especially for small billfish.
Q:
How do I arrange
to have my trophy mounted?
A:
Discuss this with
your captain. We use Gray Taxidermy, the world's largest marine taxidermist.
Q:What
is an appropriate gratuity?
A:
A good rule to use is the same scale used at a fine
restaurant.
Average service: 10%
of charter cost.
Above average service:15%
Outstanding service: 20%
Your gratuity should be given
to the captain and he will share with the crew. Your captain and crew are
trained professionals. Big game fishing is not their hobby, it is their
chosen profession.
